Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 14: The Andaman & Nicobar Police today successfully concluded two specialised training programmes aimed at enhancing the operational preparedness and professional competence of Home Guard Volunteers and in-service police personnel in coastal security and maritime policing.
The Valedictory Ceremony was held at Police Headquarter with Shri Ravindra Singh Yadav, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by senior officers of A & N Police including Smti. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, IGP (PMF); Shri Rajesh Deo, IPS, DIG (L&O); and Smti. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, SP (PMF).
The programmes included a 21-day Coastal Policing Training for Home Guard Volunteers and a 02 weeks Coastal Security Capsule Course for in-service police personnel, conducted with the support of the Indian Coast Guard, A&N Region and National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP), Okha.
The 21-day training programme was conducted by the Police Marine Force (PMF) from 20 July to 09 August 2026 at NSCBPTI, Junglighat Jetty and PMF Workshop, combining classroom and field-based instruction. The training covered key aspects of coastal security and marine policing, including maritime law enforcement, surveillance, joint patrolling, Search and Rescue (SAR), anti-poaching operations and the strategic importance of the Islands. Practical modules included seamanship, boat handling, navigation, VHF communication, radar awareness, chart reading, onboard safety and maintenance of PMF boats, Gemini boats and OBMs.
The trainees were also exposed to inter-agency coordination and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) involving the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, JOC, Fisheries, Forest, PMB and intelligence agencies, along with community engagement for intelligence gathering. Additional inputs were provided on drones, digital surveillance systems, Marine Police Observation Centres (MPOCs), Landing/Observation Posts (LOPs) and emerging maritime security challenges, including strategic infrastructure developments.
The programme concluded with five days of specialised training by the Indian Coast Guard (10–14 August 2026) focusing on maritime safety, operational procedures and coordination.
The 02 weeks course for in-service police personnel was conducted by faculty of the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP), Okha from 03 to 14 August 2026 at NSCBPTI, Sri Vijaya Puram. The course covered essential aspects of maritime law, coastal security, seamanship, navigation, boat handling and engine operations. Practical training included *maritime communication, surveillance, boat maintenance, firefighting, damage control, boarding and rummaging operations, and survival at sea. Participants were also exposed to modern surveillance equipment and relevant coastal security case studies to enhance operational readiness.
During the Valedictory Ceremony, the DGP, A & N Islands presented Letters of Appreciation to officers and faculty of NACP, Okha along with Commendation Certificates. Certificates of completion were also awarded to all successful trainees.
The DGP appreciated the efforts of the PMF, NSCBPTI, Indian Coast Guard and NACP, Okha and emphasised the importance of continuous training, discipline and inter-agency coordination in strengthening coastal security in the Islands.
The A&N Police reiterated its commitment to enhancing coastal security through specialised training, modern technology and continuous capacity building of its personnel.
