
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 21: Demonstrating its continued commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring effective prosecution of narcotics offences, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station (ANPS), Andaman & Nicobar Police has secured another conviction in an NDPS case registered earlier.
The case pertains to FIR No. 09/2024 dated 12.07.2024 registered under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, wherein the Anti-Narcotics Police Station apprehended Smt. Bhagabati Mistri, W/o Shri Prohlad Mistry, aged 46 years, a resident of Kumirmari Kachhari Para, Narendrapur, Basanti, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, presently residing at Hutbay No. 22, and recovered illicit ganja from his conscious possession during an anti-narcotics operation. The contraband was seized and the accused was arrested after observing all prescribed legal formalities.
The investigation of the case was carried out by ASI Sanjay Yadav, Anti-Narcotics Police Station, whose diligent investigation and timely submission of the charge sheet resulted in the successful prosecution of the case.
The accused was subsequently convicted on 12.08.2026 by the Hon’ble Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, South Andaman, and the case was disposed of in accordance with law.
The conviction reflects the professional investigation, effective prosecution and unwavering commitment of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station in ensuring that offenders involved in narcotic drug trafficking are brought to justice. It further reinforces the resolve of the Andaman & Nicobar Police to combat drug trafficking and safeguard society from the menace of narcotic drugs.
Consumption, possession, transportation, sale and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances are serious offences punishable under the NDPS Act, 1985. Depending upon the nature and quantity of the contraband involved, offenders are liable for rigorous imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of up to ₹2,00,000/-0 or more, as prescribed under the Act.
