Mayabunder, Aug. 24: The Department of Science and Technology conducted a series of awareness programmes on the importance of the ozone layer and the need for its protection among school and college students in North and Middle Andaman in connection with World Ozone Day-2026. As part of the initiative, awareness presentations on the Ozone Layer, its importance, ozone depletion and its environmental and health impacts were delivered by Shri V. Satyanarayana, Librarian, DST, at PM SHRI, Subhashgram & Mayabunder schools on 19.08.2026.
A poster-making competition was also organized at both schools under the supervision of Shri P. Senthil Kumar, Artist, DST. At PM SHRI GSSS, Subhashgram, Anamika Das, Kumari Sathi Haldar and Kumar Arnab Dey secured the first, second and third positions. At PM SHRI GMSS, Mayabunder, Kumar Shivank Kumar, Kumari Mahima Tirkey and Kumari Bishal Mondal secured the first, second and third positions, respectively.
At Subhashgram, Smt. Kakoli Dey, Principal, distributed the cash prizes and certificates to the winning students. At Mayabunder, Shri Prakash Haldar, Principal, distributed the cash prizes and certificates to the winners.
On 20.08.2026, a College Level Students’ Science Seminar was organized at Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder, in which nine students presented their Power Point presentations on the theme “Global Action for a Cooler Planet”. Kumari Disha Majhi (B.Sc. Geography, III Year), Kumari Nepa Roy (B.Sc. Geography, II Year), and Kum. Laldin Puia (B.Com., I Year) were adjudged first, second and third, respectively. In the poster-making competition, Kumari Punam Das, Kumari Prachi Bepari and Kumari Ankita Mazumdar secured the first, second and third positions, respectively.
On 21.08.2026, an awareness and poster-making competition was organised at PM Shri GSSS, Rangat. Kumari Papiya Das of XI, PM SHRI GSSS, Rangat, Kumari Astha Lakra of XI, and Kumari S. Ritika of XI, PM SHRI GSSS, Sabari Junction, secured the first, second and third positions, respectively. The Department distributed “Save Ozone Layer” awareness posters and cloth bags to schools and colleges.
