Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 5: The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration, under the District Action Plan (DAP) 2026–27 of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) for South Andaman District organized the two-day training programme on ‘Repair and maintenance of Marine Diesel Engines’ and ‘Repairing of Fishing Nets and Net Mending’ at the Fish Landing Centre, Shaheed Dweep, under Prothrapur Block, on 4th and 5th September, 2026.
The programme was coordinated by Shri. Abdul Arif, Sub-Inspector of Fisheries, with the technical support from Sree Narayan, Ex-Afloat Section official, Department of Fisheries, as the resource person along with the Sagar Mitra. During the training, participants were provided practical demonstrations and guidance on routine maintenance, basic repairs, troubleshooting and safe operation of marine diesel engines used in fishing vessels.
The participants were further imparted practical training on repairing and mending fishing nets, including identification of damaged portions, basic net-mending techniques and proper maintenance of fishing gear. On completion of the training, certificates were distributed to all 20 participants, along with essential safety and working inputs such as goggles and hand gloves to promote safe practices during engine maintenance and net-repair activities.
