Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 7: The Department of Agriculture, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, through the High Value Agriculture Development Agency (HVADA) has deputed a team of 16 farmers and 4 departmental officials from the vegetable-growing areas of North & Middle Andaman and South Andaman to participate in a 7-day training programme on “Package of Practices on Vegetables and Production Technologies” at ICAR–KVK, Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal, from 8th to 14th September, 2026.
The training, organized under the Human Resource Development (HRD) component of the National Horticulture Mission (NHM) under MIDH, aims to provide participants with practical exposure to modern and scientific vegetable production technologies. Key areas of training include nursery management, quality seed and planting material selection, crop establishment, nutrient and water management, integrated pest and disease management, protected cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
The programme is expected to strengthen the technical capabilities of both farmers and field-level officials, promoting the adoption of improved and climate-suitable vegetable cultivation practices in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Through this initiative, HVADA continues its efforts to enhance agricultural productivity, improve produce quality, and support sustainable vegetable production across the Islands.
