Department of Community Medicine, ANIIMS Organises Awareness Programme on ‘Prevention of Heart Diseases through Healthy Living’

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 7: On the occasion of World Heart Day, health education and awareness programme on ‘Prevention of Heart Diseases through Healthy Living’ was conducted at Urban Health and Training Centre (UHTC), Haddo by the Department of Community Medicine, ANIIMS. The programme was organized under overall leadership and encouragement of Dr. Mukesh Tripathi, Director, ANIIMS and the guidance of Dr Ajay Raj, Dr Samar Hossain, Dr Aanchal Anand, Dr Mitul Saha and Dr. Razeeda Bano.

The programme was attended by all the patients and attendants above the age of 30 years. The session focused on major cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet and smoking with emphasis on regular screening and adherence to prescribed medication.

As part of the initiative, screening for blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) and electrocardiography (ECG) was also provided to all patients as per their requirements attending the OPD at UHTC Haddo facilitating early identification of cardiovascular risk factors and abnormalities.

Particular focus was placed on educating participants about the early warning signs of a heart attack, including chest pain or heaviness, breathlessness, sweating, nausea, and pain radiating to the arm, jaw, or back. The interactive session concluded with a discussion on heart disease prevention and timely healthcare-seeking reinforcing the importance of community-level health education in promoting cardiovascular health and preventing premature deaths.
