Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 7: The Department of Environment & Forests organised a Wildlife Awareness Programme during the evening hours at Flag Point/Marina Park yesterday, as part of the 72nd Wildlife Week Celebrations, drawing a large number of tourists, visitors and members of the general public.
A key attraction was the tableau depicting the endemic wildlife of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, which received an overwhelming response from visitors. The display highlighted the Islands’ unique biodiversity and the fact that several species found here occur nowhere else in the world. Visitors were also sensitised on the importance of protecting these species and their habitats and following responsible tourism practices.
The programme also featured cultural performances by local artists, which were well appreciated. Tourists actively participated in the cultural programme and shared their experiences of visiting the Islands, adding an interactive dimension to the event.
