
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 7: In continuance of the vision of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor towards strengthening the fight against narcotics and building a drug-free Islands, South Andaman District Police has intensified enforcement action against the illegal possession, sale and distribution of narcotic substances across the district.
From 1st September 2026 to till date, police teams of South Andaman District conducted a series of coordinated raids and searches at various locations under South Andaman District. The operations resulted in the seizure of 7.754 Kgs of Ganja, 1.21 Kgs of Methamphetamine and 26 Cannabis Plants weighing 10.236 Kgs along with the apprehension of 15 persons. A total of 09 FIRs have been registered at different Police Stations under South Andaman District under NDPS Act. Further, all seized narcotic substances were taken into custody after completing the prescribed legal and procedural formalities.

As part of the enforcement drive, major breakthroughs were achieved by PS Humfrygunj, which registered 02 cases, seized 2.29 Kgs of Ganja and arrested 03 accused persons; PS Pahargaon registered 01 case, seized 1.21049 Kg of Methamphetamine and arrested 05 accused persons; PS Aberdeen registered 01 case, seized 4.125 Kgs of Ganja and arrested 02 accused persons.
Further, from 01st January 2026 to till date, 41 cases have been registered and 67 accused persons have been arrested for offences under the NDPS Act. During these operations, police have seized 19.33 kg of Ganja, 1.67 kg of Hashish, 10.051 kg of Methamphetamine, 47 Nitrazepam tablets, 10 Nitzascen tablets, and 73 Cannabis plants weighing 10.4638 kg. In addition, 298 awareness programmes have been conducted across the district to sensitise the public, particularly youth, about the harmful effects of narcotic drug consumption.
These actions reflect the continued commitment of South Andaman District Police to disrupting the illegal narcotics supply chain through regular raids, surprise checks, intelligence-based operations and intensified patrolling. The police will continue to adopt a proactive and zero-tolerance approach against drug-related activities to contribute towards the vision of a drug-free Island, safer and healthier society.
The South Andaman District Police also appeals to the general public to actively cooperate in this drive by sharing any credible information regarding any illegal activities and sale of Narcotic substances.
