Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 23: The Directorate of Fisheries has advised all fish farmers, hatchery operators, aquaculture entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to refrain from using slaughter waste, poultry offal, animal carcasses and other untreated animal-origin waste materials as feed in aquaculture farms. The use of such materials may increase the risk of harmful pathogens, including Salmonella and E.coli, contaminate aquaculture systems, deteriorate water quality and pose potential risks to fish health, consumer safety and the aquatic environment.
All concerned have been advised to use quality-assured, nutritionally balanced formulated aqua feeds and adopt Good Aquaculture Practices (GAqP), including proper farm hygiene and water quality management. Fish farmers and stakeholders are requested to strictly follow this advisory and cooperate with the Department in promoting safe, hygienic, sustainable and responsible aquaculture practices in the A&N Islands.
