ICAR–KVK Nimbudera Conducts Training Programme on “Modern Agricultural Techniques for Paddy Cultivation”

Nimbudera, Aug 25: ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nimbudera, organized a three-day training programme on “Modern Agricultural Techniques for Paddy Cultivation” from August 21 to 23 at Samiti Hall, Rangat, with the objective of empowering local farmers with advanced knowledge and practical skills to enhance paddy productivity under island conditions. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of the Chief Guest, Shri Balamurugan, Pradhan of Parnasala Panchayat. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the importance of adopting scientific and sustainable farming practices to increase yield and profitability.

Dr. V. Damodaran, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Nimbudera, emphasized the vital role of paddy cultivation in ensuring food security and sustaining livelihoods under island conditions. He highlighted that modern scientific practices can help farmers overcome challenges such as limited resources and unpredictable climate, thereby improving productivity and sustainability. The Assistant Director of Agriculture Smt. Shirley Thomas spoke about various government schemes for farmers, with special reference to the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and explained its role in providing financial security against crop losses.Mr. Rakesh Dawar, SMS (Agronomy), delivered a detailed session on the recommended package of practices for paddy cultivation, specifically tailored to island farming conditions. He explained improved methods of seed selection, nursery preparation, and transplanting techniques for better crop establishment. Farmers were also guided on the scientific use of organic manures with special emphasis on integrated nutrient management. During the interactive session, he trained participants to identify nutrient deficiencies and physiological disorders commonly observed in paddy. Mr. Dawar also conducted a live field demonstration on the use of the Conoweederin farmers’ fields. Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agricultural Engineering), explained the significance of mechanization in paddy farming. He emphasized how modern tools and techniques can reduce drudgery, save time, and enhance productivity. Mr. Subam Debroy, SMS (Aquaculture), highlighted the importance of paddy-cum-fish culture, while Mr. Yatharth Sharma, SMS (Home Science), discussed post-harvest processing and value addition in paddy. About 31farmer and farmwomen participated and benefited from the training.
