Car Nicobar, Sept. 3: The Zonal Agriculture Team, Car Nicobar celebrates ‘World Coconut Day’, 2025 yesterday at Multipurpose Farm, Perka on the theme ‘Uncovering Coconut’s Power, Inspiring Global Action’. The programme was graced by the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, Shri Satnam Singh, IAS, as the chief guest while Shri John Chrysostem, Second Headman, Perka Village was the guest of honour. Ms. Tripti Kalhans, IAS (P), Car Nicobar was also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobars congratulated the residents of coastal areas specially the tribal of Nicobars, where the coconuts are grown in abundance, which has its religious, economic & health benefits.
Various topics like innovation & technology adoption in coconut, cultivation aspects of coconut, value addition of coconut were covered by subject matter specialist, CIARI-KVK and officials of Agriculture Department.
Welcoming the chief guest and others present on the occasion, Shri C. Vinod Kumar, Assistant Director (Soil) elaborated on the importance of ‘World Coconut Day’ and the importance of coconut in the day-to-day life of the Tribal Community. He further requested the representatives & participants from various villages to reap the benefits of schemes of Agriculture Department and line departments from cultivation aspects to value addition & post-harvest technologies.
To make the occasion more enthusiastic, various competitions like display of coconut recipes, self- made coconut handicrafts & value-added products of coconut & coconut de-husking were conducted for both men & women farmers. An interaction session was also held between officers of line departments & farmers. Altogether, 30 farmers from various villages participated in the function and the programme concluded with distribution of prizes to the winners of the competition.
