ANIIMS Clarifies Concerns Raised on Vacant Seats

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 13: In the recent past, concerns were raised on MBBS seats reserved under All India Quota, which often remain vacant after the counselling process.

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) in a press release has clarified that as per the Notice No. U-12021/06/2021 dated 18.12.2021 issued by the office of ADG(ME), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Gol wherein, the Ministry has categorically stated that “no AIQ seats will be reverted back to the respective States after the completion of AIQ Round 2 counselling.

The release further stated that the Ministry has taken this decision based on an order from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the matter of Nihila PP -Versus- The Medical Counselling Committee & Others. The Hon’ble Court directed that four rounds of online counselling be conducted for the All-India Quota: AIQ round-I, AIQ Round-II, AIQ Mop-up, Round, and AIQ Stray Vacancy Round. The seats that were previously reverted to States after the Round-II now continue to be filled in the AIQ Mop-up-and Stray Vacancy rounds, which are conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee. These rounds are for AIQ seats only, which include 15% of undergraduate i.e. 17 seats out of the total 114 seats of ANIIMS.

Further, to set aside the concerns on the issue of vacant seats, ANIIMS has stated that after notification dated 18.12.2021 by the MoHFW, all the AIQ seats have been filled up and no MBBS seats remained vacant after the counselling process. ANIIMS has been taking all its efforts every year for filling up of MBBS seat in a fair and transparent manner following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
