
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 20: The Andaman Sarvajanik Nirman Vibhag Mazdoor Sangh (CITU) has organized a mass demonstration in front of the office of the Chief Engineer, APWD at Port Blair today (20.11.2025) afternoon demanding (i) regularization of services of Daily Rated Mazdoors (ii) against denial of weekly off if one day leave or Industrial Holiday is availed and (iii) settlement of pending issues of regular employees and workers.
During the course of mass demonstration, a delegation of the Union led by its President B. Chandrachoodan met the Chief Engineer, APWD at his chamber and submitted a Memorandum on the above issues. The Chief Engineer assured the Union delegation that instructions will be issued to all Executive Engineers to pay full wages/30 days’ wages to the DRMs.
Addressing the participants in the mass demonstration, B. Chandrachoodan, President of ASNVMS said that agitation and legal course of action would go simultaneously in the matter of regularization of services of DRMs. He called upon the daily rated workers working in various departments of the Administration to remain united under the banner of CITU for conducting a sustained struggle on this issue. SP Kalairajan and Anand Rajan, General Secretary and Treasurer, ASNVMS and P. Sathyapal, Secretary, CITU State Committee also addressed the participants in the programme.
A large number of workers from Port Blair town and rural South Andaman areas participated in the mass demonstration.
