
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 2: A three-day Online Training Programme on ‘Package of Practices of Major Crops for Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ for the officers and officials of the Department of Agriculture, A&N Administration, including ATMA functionaries throughout all zones was inaugurated today. The programme, being organized by ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, will be held from Dec. 2 to 4.
Speaking on the occasion, Smti Sreedevi, Joint Director (Agri) appreciated the efforts of ICAR–CIARI in continuously supporting capacity-building initiatives and emphasized the importance of adopting improved production technologies tailored to the unique Island ecosystems. She urged all the participants to take full benefit of the training programme.
In his address, Dr. Jai Sundar, Director, ICAR–CIARI underlined the significance of strengthening research–extension linkages and ensuring dissemination of need-based scientific knowledge to enhance crop productivity in the Islands. Over the next three days, experts from various disciplines will deliver technical sessions covering a wide range of topics including improved production technologies for paddy, pulses, fruits, spices and vegetables, integrated nutrient and water management, crop diversification models, protected cultivation, crop management techniques and integrated pest and disease management.
A total of 89 officials of the Department of Agriculture are participating in the training programme.
