Sr. Deputy Election Commissioner Pawan Kumar Sharma Presides Meeting at Secretariat on SIR

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 3: Shri Pawan Kumar Sharma, Sr. Deputy Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India (ECI), today presided over a meeting in the conference hall of the Secretariat, A&N Administration, Sri Vijaya Puram with the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, District Election Officers, ERO, AEROs and other Election related Officials regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, currently underway in A&N Islands.

At the outset, the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Shri L. Kumar welcomed the Sr. Deputy Election Commissioner, Shri Pawan Kumar Sharma on his visit to A&N Islands. Thereafter, the CEO through a power point presentation gave a detail account of the SIR exercise being undertaken in A&N Islands with the sole aim to prepare a robust and accurate Electoral Roll, the objective of which is that “No Eligible Voter to be Left Out and No Ineligible person is Included in the Electoral Roll”.

The CEO gave a detailed data about the current status of SIR exercise which is underway, maintaining utmost transparency by the appointed DEO, ERO, AEROs, BLO Supervisor, BLOs & BLAs. Training programmes have been conducted for AEROs, BLO Supervisors & BLOs in all the three Districts for the smooth conduct of the SIR exercise covering the length & breadth of A&N Islands, he said.

The Enumeration Forms digitized collected from the electors stands at 97.60 percent as on Dec. 3, 2025 by (2 pm). The CEO also apprised the Sr. Deputy Election Commissioner about the meetings held with the Political Parties at the CEO, DEO, ERO and AERO levels. The Political Parties have also extended their cooperation & support by appointing around 800 Booth Level Agents, who are working in close coordination with the BLOs to support the enumeration work, the CEO said adding that a series of awareness programmes were conducted for maximum coverage of eligible electors in the voter list of A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency.

On reviewing the SIR exercise in A&N Islands, Shri Pawan Kumar Sharma, Sr. Deputy Election Commissioner said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is a strategic exercise by the Election Commission of India (ECI) aimed at thoroughly updating, verifying, removing and correcting the voter lists across India. He expressed his satisfaction that SIR exercise is being undertaken in A&N Islands in a systematic way as per the laid own guidelines of the Election Commission. He further laid emphasis on to expedite the collection of filled in Enumeration Forms to 100 percent by Dec. 5 in the runup to prepare a healthy Electoral Rolls, the draft of which will be published on Dec. 16.

He also highlighted the importance of improving the mapping percentage of current electors with last SIR 2002 roll so that the ERO/AEROs can minimize the need for issuing notices and ensure a smoother verification process.

All District Electoral Officer (DEO), Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) & Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and other officials from the CEOs Office attended the meeting.

After concluding the meeting, the Senior Deputy Election Commissioner, along with the Chief Electoral Officer, visited few Polling Stations in Sri Vijaya Puram Tehsil. During the visit, he interacted with the Booth Level Officers as well as the electors present at the Polling Stations.
