Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 7: As part of the Tourism Calendar of events for the year 2025-26, a Bird Walk was organized at Sippighat Wetland by the Tourism Department in association with the Department of Environment & Forest (DCF WL) with the main objective of promoting bird tourism in A&N Islands and create awareness about local biodiversity. The programme began with an introduction by Shri Arun Singh, Bird Guide, Andaman Avians Club, who briefed the participants about the wetland and the bird species commonly found there. Subsequently, Shri Ram Vikas, Forest Guard (Resource Person), assisted the participants in bird identification using spotter scopes and binoculars. The Wildlife Division of the Forest Department provided bird-watching equipment for the event, enabling participants to closely observe various bird species.
During the Bird Walk, participants observed a variety of wetland bird species like Andaman Teal, Egret, Sand Piper, Curlew, Red Shank, Tern etc. and gained an understanding of the importance of conserving local biodiversity.
It was a unique experience for the participants of the bird walk trail as they were able to see different kinds of wetland birds at the site. This trail also cultivated observational skills and patience, provided educational opportunities through learning about species and habitats, encouraged social interaction & a greater sense of environmental stewardship among the participants.
