Mock Drill on Earthquake & Fire Held at HQ Fire & Emergency Services

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 27: As directed by Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to conduct Mock Drill in every Department on quarterly basis, the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration conducted Mock Drill on Earthquake & Fire in the A&N Fire & Emergency Services (HQ), Sri Vijaya Puram yesterday in coordination with A&N Police, Health, NDRF, Fire & APWD. The exercise was aimed at testing the real-time preparedness, coordination and efficiency of various Departments during a simulated earthquake followed by a fire outbreak scenario. The drill was conducted under the leadership of Shri Sunny Gupta, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Fire), who acted as the Incident Commander for the simulation.

The simulation began with an artificial earthquake scenario triggering structural damage and fire in the designated area. The Fire & Emergency Services responded swiftly by deploying fire tenders and carrying out Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. The NDRF team demonstrated their expertise in rope rescue techniques and Medical First Responder (MFR) procedures to extricate and stabilize simulated victims trapped in debris and smoke-filled environments.

Observers from all participating Departments, including Health, NDRF and APWD, were present throughout the drill and commended the efficiency, coordination, and professionalism displayed during the operation. The Observers appreciated the realistic setup of the simulation and the proactive engagement of all response teams. The mock drill concluded with a debriefing session where feedback was collected to further improve inter-agency coordination and strengthen disaster response mechanisms in the Islands.
