
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 7: The All India Kisan Sabha, Andaman & Nicobar State Committee has organized corner meetings and mike announcement at various parts of rural South Andaman on 6th and 7th January, 2026. The demands raised during the corner meetings were (i) to accord absolute ownership of land to landholders (ii) supply of fertilizers and seeds to farmers, (iii) against Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (iv) subsidy on electricity to farmers (v) restoration of land to tsunami affected farmers (vi) adequate compensation to tsunami affected farmers of rural South Andaman, and (vii) setting up of Kisan Mandi, etc.
Addressing the corner meetings, Dr Gouranga Majhi, President, All India Kisan Sabha A & N State Committee criticized the central government for the sufferings of farmers in the country in general and those in A & N Islands in particular and said that farmers in the islands are being neglected by the authorities. He expressed concern over the inadequate supply of fertilizers to the farmers.
Addressing the meetings, P. Sathyapal, Joint Secretary, AIKS, State Committee demanded that the tsunami affected farmers of rural South Andaman are yet to get adequate compensation for the submerged land despite repeated assurances by Congress and BJP governments at the centre. He also expressed concern over the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.
S. Chidambaram, Vice President, AIKS State Committee also addressed the corner meetings.
