CITU Organises Convention on Anti-Working Class Four Labour Codes

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 19: CITU, Andaman & Nicobar State Committee has organized a Convention on the Anti-Working Class Four Labour Codes at Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram) today (18.01.2026), as part of the campaign for the All India General Strike on 12th February 2026 by central trade unions supported by Samyukta Kisan Sabha and other class and mass organisations.  

Inaugurating the Convention, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU criticized the central government for imposing the four Labour Codes on the workers in place of 29 existing labour laws.  He said that workers and trade unions will be facing a lot of difficulties once these labour codes are fully implemented.  He also expressed concern over the inaction on the part of the BJP-led government and its Administration in the islands towards various genuine and long pending demands of the workers. 

Addressing the Convention, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU briefly explained each of the Labour Codes and said that these Labour Codes were enacted only with the intention to help the corporate in the country.  He also briefly explained about the nation-wide proposed agitation including the All India General Strike on 12.02.2026 by central trade unions and Samyukta Kisan Morcha supported by students, youth and women’s organisations against the Labour Codes. He also touched upon the anti -people Electricity Amendment Bill, 2025 and Seeds Bill, 2025 which are proposed to be proposed in Parliament.    

The Convention finalized a detailed programme for territory-wide campaign including Conventions at Zonal levels in connection with the All India General Strike.     

SP Kalairajan and Anand Rajan, Secretaries of CITU also addressed the Convention which was presided over by R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee. A large number of   workers from various trade unions affiliated to CITU participated in the Convention.
