Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 29: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) RRC Andaman team successfully conducted a mobilization and operational drill at the Jirkatang check post today, under the supervision of Sridhar R., Assistant Commandant.
The exercise was aimed at strengthening the team’s timely response capabilities and enhancing communication coordination with local authorities during emergency scenarios. As part of the drill, the team organised a Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) operation simulation to mirror realistic disaster response conditions. CSSR is a key component of disaster readiness, involving the structured search and rescue of trapped victims from collapsed or compromised structures.
Acting on the guidance from 4BN NDRF, Arakkonam, the RRC ANI team, led by Inspector Kunal Kaushik, was mobilised with 30 rescuers, fully equipped with specialised gear for flood rescue, collapsed structure search and rescue, medical first aid, and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) response. NDRF teams are trained to handle a wide range of disaster scenarios, including floods, earthquakes, landslides, and CBRN emergencies.
During the drill, the team simulated a complete response sequence as in a real emergency, conducting all activities with prompt response times and adherence to safety protocols. Upon reaching the designated operation site, the team established communication with 4BN NDRF Headquarters using both satellite phone and high-frequency (HF) radio sets, delivering a detailed, point-by-point update on the drill’s progress.
