Pipping Ceremony Organised at PHQ to Confer Special Grade to Five Police Personnel

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 29: The Andaman & Nicobar Police announced the introduction of Special Grade designations for Constables and Head Constables, marking a significant step towards recognising experience, merit, and long years of dedicated service within the force.

Under the new decision, eligible Constables completing 15 years of service with 1st MACP have been granted the designation of Head Constable (Special Grade), while eligible Head Constables completing 25 years of service, including five years as Head Constable with 1st and 2nd MACP and vigilance clearance, have been upgraded as Assistant Sub-Inspector (Special Grade). After a gap of seven years (since 2018), this milestone became possible due to the sustained efforts of the Police leadership.

In this connection, on 29th January 2026, a pipping ceremony was held at the Police Headquarters, presided over by Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. On the occasion, five police personnel were conferred with Special Grade ranks, including two Head Constables designated Assistant Sub-Inspector (Special Grade) and three Constables, including two Lady Constables, designated as Head Constable (Special Grade).
