Pilpillow, a remote village located 31 km from the administrative headquarters under the Kamorta Tribal Council, had long lacked basic recreational facilities for children. Recognizing the need for a dedicated play area, a project was conceptualized for construction of a traditional style eco-friendly recreational space. The initiative was proposed for implementation under the employment guarantee programme, thereby supporting local livelihoods while creating durable community assets.
Constructed at a cost of Rs. 2,99,049/- generating 809 mandays, the facility has been developed as a sustainable community asset integrating traditional design elements with eco-friendly locally available materials. The park provides a safe and engaging recreational space for children promoting healthy lifestyles among tribal residents of the village.
Speaking on the occasion, the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry highlighted that the initiative reflects the Administration’s commitment to grass root development, environmental stewardship, and inclusive public infrastructure. He exhorted the community members to maintain the space neatly, so that it is effectively put to use. The community representatives expressed appreciation for the creation of a shared space that strengthens recreation, fitness, and social cohesion in the village.
The project stands as a testament to collaborative local governance and the effective implementation of rural employment initiatives in creating durable, community-centric assets.
