Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 27: Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) has launched ‘Stop the Leakage, Save Water’ Campaign across the city to reduce water loss, promote proper water management and to create public awareness about saving this precious resource.
Water conservation remains a key priority of the Council, particularly in view of the rising demand for potable water and the need for sustainable resource management. Through this campaign, SVPMC seeks to strengthen the existing water supply system and to ensure equitable and reliable distribution of water to all households.
As part of the initiative, SVPMC, in coordination with the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD), has formed special inspection teams to conduct ward wise checks of the water supply pipelines within the municipal area. These teams will identify leakages, overflow points and other issues in the distribution system. Immediate repairs and maintenance are being carried out by the concern sections to minimize unnecessary water loss.
The campaign also encourages active participation from the public. Residents are requested to regularly check their household plumbing, repair leaking taps and pipes and prevent overflow from overhead water tanks. As part of the campaign, the Council is distributing pamphlets outlining the dos and don’ts of water conservation to create awareness and encourage responsible use of water among the public.
SVPMC further advises citizens to install float valves in overhead tanks to automatically control water flow and avoid overflow, which can save a significant amount of water. The support and cooperation of residents, institutions and commercial establishments are essential for the success of this campaign.
The Council emphasizes that water conservation is a shared responsibility and urges all citizens to actively support the “Stop the Leakage, Save water” Campaign to build a water secure and sustainable Sri Vijaya Puram. All citizens have been requested to inform the Municipal Control Room at 231179 about any water leakage, burst pipelines, overflow, or misuse of water noticed anywhere in the city. For complaints pertaining to rural areas, the public may contact the APWD Water Control Room at 251185 or 18003451666.
Timely information will enable the authorities to take swift action and prevent unnecessary wastage of water. The Control Rooms are functioning 24 × 7 for the convenience of the public.
