Sri Vijaya Puram, March 8: The Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in association with the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education and Research Centre (C-STERC), organized an Astro Guide Training Programme at the Panchayat Samiti Bhawan, Little Andaman from 5th to 7th March, 2026.
The training programme aimed to build local capacity and promote astro-tourism as an emerging niche tourism segment in the Islands. During the programme, participants were trained in basic astronomy, night sky observation, use of telescopes, constellation identification, and interpretation skills required to guide visitors during astro-tourism activities.
A total of 50 candidates from Little Andaman participated in the programme. The training equipped them with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve as Astro Guides, thereby creating livelihood opportunities for local youth while enhancing visitor experiences through guided stargazing activities.
The initiative formed part of the Department’s efforts to diversify tourism offerings and promote sustainable, experience-based tourism in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
