Sri Vijaya Puram, March 11: Under the Digital India initiative, the A&N Archives launched its website sub-chapter on Abhilekh Patal yesterday. The website was formally launched by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, in the presence of senior officials at the Secretariat. The Archives Department commenced the work of uploading archival records to the portal on Feb. 10, 2026.
Within a period of 20 working days, the Archives Department successfully uploaded 2,267 records comprising 96,355 pages. This work was carried out with the valuable support and association of students from the History Department of JNRM, who contributed during their internship period.
On the website, the Archives has created several thematic categories to facilitate easy retrieval of information for research scholars as well as the general public.
The Secretary (Archives) has also requested the general public and old inhabitants of these islands to kindly share any historically important documents in their possession with the Archives Department. Such materials may include documents, photographs, visitors’ books, and other historical records, which may be deposited with the Archives for proper preservation and also included in the Website for future reference.
In cases where custodians are not willing to part with the original documents or photographs, the materials may be digitized through scanning, and soft copies preserved in the Archives for record, posterity, and historical research.
