
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 1: In a significant boost to maritime security in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Indian Coast Guard has rebased ICGS RAJDOOT at Sri Vijaya Puram on 01 April 2026 from New Mangalore. This strategic move is aimed at strengthening maritime presence and enhancing rapid response capability in one of India’s most sensitive and strategically significant maritime regions
ICGS RAJDOOT is a 50-metre indigenously designed and built Fast Patrol Vessel. The ship is characterised by high speed, excellent manoeuvrability and sustained operational endurance, enabling it to undertake a wide spectrum of maritime operations.
The ship is equipped for coastal surveillance. interdiction operations, maritime law enforcement and rapid response tasks, making it a versatile platform capable of meeting diverse operational requirements in dynamic maritime environments.
On arrival at Sri Vijaya Puram, the ship was accorded a ceremonial welcome in keeping with Coast Guard Customs. The ceremony marked the formal induction of the ship into the operational framework of the islands. The rebasina of ICGS RAJDOOT will significantly augment the capabilities of the Andaman and Nicobar Command in ensuring enhanced maritime surveillance, law enforcement, search and rescue response, medical evacuation and swift response to maritime contingencies across the Andaman & Nicobar group of islands.
