Sri Vijaya Puram, July 24: The Directorate of Art & Culture, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in its endeavour to nurture theatre among the youth and general public of these Islands, organized a month-long theatre workshop, in collaboration with the National School of Drama, New Delhi, from June 25 to July 24, 2026. The theatre workshop concluded with a theatrical presentation of ‘Duniya Ka Sabse Anmol Ratan’, a story written by the legendary writer Munshi Premchand, at the Andaman Club, the venue of the month-long workshop. The Director, Art & Culture, Ms Priyanka Kumari was the chief guest at the concluding of the workshop.
In her address, the chief guest said the culmination of this workshop through the presentation of such a beautiful and thought-provoking play made this occasion truly special. These Islands are blessed with immense artistic talent and only thing is needed the right guidance and systematic training in the finer aspects of theatre and other performing arts, she added.
She expressed her sincere gratitude to the esteemed faculty members of the National School of Drama, who travelled from the mainland and dedicated an entire month to mentoring and training our artistes. Their commitment, expertise, and guidance have been invaluable in nurturing local talent. She also distributed the participation certificates to the participants of the workshop.
The theatrical presentation of ‘Duniya Ka Sabse Anmol Ratan’, based on a timeless story by the legendary Hindi writer Munshi Premchand, captivated the audience with its powerful message of compassion, selfless sacrifice, humanity, and moral courage. The performance was brought to life by the participants of the month-long Production-Oriented Theatre Workshop, who dedicated themselves to an intensive process of learning, rehearsing, and refining every aspect of theatrical performance. The audience appreciated and applauded the performance of the participants of the theatrical presentation.
Under the expert guidance of Workshop Director, Shri Surendra Sharma of the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, and Assistant Director, Shri Avinash Deshpande, the participants not only honed their artistic skills but also developed a deeper appreciation for the discipline and collaborative spirit that theatre demands.
Earlier, the Assistant Director, Art & Culture, Ms. Kanak Radha Chatterjee welcomed the chief guest and others present on the occasion.
