Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 21: A delegation from the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) led by President Shri M. Vinod, along with General Secretary Shri K. Hamza and Joint Secretary Shri Saikat Biswas, met Chief Secretary Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar today to discuss several pressing issues affecting tourist movement, passenger comfort, and traffic management at major jetties across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The delegation highlighted multiple concerns, including the discontinuation of the Rs 20 parking fee for tourist vehicles picking up passengers at Haddo Passenger Terminal, provision of battery-operated carts for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers at Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep, construction of shaded walkways, reopening of temporarily closed passenger sheds, improvement of toilet facilities, and the urgent requirement for functional luggage trolleys at all major jetties.
The Chief Secretary responded positively and immediately agreed to all the concerns raised, issuing directions to the concerned authorities for prompt action. He assured the delegation that these improvements would be taken up on priority to enhance the overall tourist experience and streamline passenger handling systems across the islands.
President Shri M. Vinod expressed his gratitude to the Chief Secretary for his swift response, proactive approach, and continued support toward improving tourism infrastructure. He stated that such prompt action reflects the Administration’s commitment to ensuring smooth, safe, and comfortable travel experiences for visitors and residents alike.
AATO remains dedicated to working closely with the Administration to strengthen tourism facilities and promote sustainable, responsible, and visitor-friendly development across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
