
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 21: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, conducted a series of awareness programmes on dog bite prevention, stray dog management, and rabies awareness in different parts of the Islands during the second and third week of July 2026.
At Diglipur, a Dog Awareness Programme was organised at Sumati School, Sitanagar. At Hut Bay, Little Andaman, an awareness programme on stray dog management, dog bite prevention and first aid was conducted at Government Primary School, Anna Nagar. In South Andaman, the Veterinary Dispensary, Manglutan, organised awareness programmes on Dog Bite Prevention and Safety Measures on 13th and 14th July, 2026 covering four Government schools viz. GSSS, Manglutan, GPS, Indira Nagar, GMS, Guptapara, and GMS, Manglutan.
During the programmes, students and teachers were educated on understanding dog behaviour and warning signs, safe practices to prevent dog bites, dos and don’ts while encountering stray dogs, immediate first aid after a dog bite (including thorough washing of the wound with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes), the importance of timely Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV), and responsible pet ownership.
