AH&VS Conducts Training Programme on Hydroponic Fodder Cultivation

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 22: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, successfully conducted a two-day training programme on hydroponic fodder production and Azolla at Veterinary Sub-Dispensary (VSD), Maccapahad.

The training was inaugurated by the Sarpanch, Gram Panchayat, Beodnabad, who appreciated the initiative for addressing fodder scarcity and supporting livestock health. The Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Dispensary Rangachang, explained in detail the concept, step-by-step procedure, suitable seeds, space and water requirements, automation options, growth stages, cleanliness protocols, biomass yield, nutritional value of different varieties, improvements in milk and meat production, advantages, and feeding methods. A video clip demonstrating the complete procedure was screened for better understanding.

Participants showed keen interest, engaged actively in interactive discussions, and gained practical knowledge on sustainable fodder production techniques.

This training reflects the Department’s ongoing commitment to equipping farmers with modern, low-cost fodder solutions, enhancing livestock productivity, and promoting sustainable animal husbandry practices in the islands.
