
Sri Vijaya Puram Sept. 2: The Department of AH&VS in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), conducted a two-day training program on ‘Scientific Rearing and Management of Dairy Cattle’ at Indira Nagar, Gram Panchayat Humphreygunj, South Andaman, on Aug. 30 & 31. The initiative aimed to enhance milk production, improve animal health, and promote sustainable livelihoods for dairy farmers.
Thirty-seven dairy farmers participated, receiving expert guidance on modern cattle management. Dr. Ajay Verma, Joint Director (AH&VS), Dr. Prakash Bala, Principal Scientist, CIARI, Dr. P. Perumal, Senior Scientist, CIARI, Dr. Subhash Palve, Senior Veterinary Officer, Livestock Farm Complex, Dollygunj, Dr. Satish Kumar, Senior Veterinary Officer, Dollygunj, Dr. Lawhale Ninad Sahebrao, Senior Veterinary Officer, Manglutan, Shri Abdul Majeed, Senior Veterinary Compounder, and Ms. Shabana Kulsoom, Veterinary Compounder spoke on various aspects of dairy farming during the training.
Indira Nagar, with approximately 236 cattle and 50 dairy farmers, contributes 800–1000 liters of fresh milk daily to the local economy. The training equipped farmers with scientific methods to enhance efficiency and productivity. Smt. Kavita Devi, Samiti Member, Gram Panchayat Humphrygunj, commended the AH&VS for organizing the program in the village.
