Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 18: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, conducted two Veterinary Infertility Camps recently in South Andaman to address reproductive health challenges in livestock and enhance farm productivity. The camps, held at Calicut and RGT Road, provided targeted veterinary interventions and farmer education to promote sustainable animal husbandry practices.
At the Calicut camp, veterinary teams attended to 65 bovine, 39 caprine, and 150 poultry cases. Poor oestrous detection was identified as a primary cause of fertility issues. Farmers received guidance on the oestrous cycle, emphasizing timely heat detection and insemination techniques to improve conception rates and livestock productivity. The sessions focused on practical strategies to address reproductive challenges effectively.
At the RGT Road camp, a number of cattle, including adult cows, calves, and heifers, were examined and treated. Veterinary teams diagnosed one case of persistent corpus luteum and administered treatments, including Buserelin injections, 1000 ml of dewormer, 5000 ml of calcium liquid, 1.2 kg of Milkocide (milk production enhancer), and 5 kg of mineral mixture. These interventions addressed reproductive and nutritional deficiencies to support improved animal health and milk yields.
Both camps were held at farmers’ premises, ensuring accessible veterinary services for local communities.
