AH&VS Continues Island-wide Mass Awareness Campaign on ‘Stray Dog Bite Prevention and Management’

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 14: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services continued its aggressive island-wide mass awareness campaign on “Stray Dog Bite Prevention and Management” with remarkable intensity on Dec. 10 & 11, reaching more than five hundred school children and teachers in South Andaman.

The campaign was conducted at Government Middle School Humfrygunj in which Dr Ninad Lawhale, Senior Veterinary Officer, Manglutan, taught the children how to stay safe around both pet and stray dogs, how to recognise signs of aggression, common reasons why dogs bite and simple ways to avoid such situations.

Dr V. Subramanian, Veterinary Officer, Garacharma, along with Smt T. Zareena, Veterinary Compounder, conducted an equally engaging session at Government Middle School New Bimblitan focusing on bite prevention, stray dog management and responsible community behaviour. The Department also underlined the vital role of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme in keeping the Islands safe and rabies-free.
