
Little Andaman, June 29: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) organised a Veterinary Health Camp cum Awareness Training Programme on Pig Farming at Harminder Bay, Little Andaman today.
The one-day programme witnessed active participation from local tribal farmers and livestock owners. During the Veterinary Health Camp, a total of 516 animals were treated and examined by the veterinary team. The species-wise breakup of cases handled is as follows: Goats – 51, Pigs – 177, Poultry – 266, and Dogs – 22. The camp provided on-the-spot treatment, deworming, vaccination, and necessary medicines to the animals brought by the farmers.
Simultaneously, a special Awareness Training Programme on Scientific Pig Farming was conducted, in which 20 tribal participants actively took part. The training session covered important topics such as modern pig rearing practices, balanced nutrition, disease management, proper housing, biosecurity measures, and profitable backyard pig farming techniques suitable for the island conditions.
