Sri Vijaya Puram, July 23: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, will conduct a Workshop-cum-Webinar on “Partnering for Animal Welfare and Sterilization (PAWS)” on July 25, 2025, at 9.30 AM at the TGCE Auditorium, Sri Vijaya Puram. The initiative aims to foster inter-departmental awareness and collaboration to enhance stray animal management across the Islands.
The inaugural session will be graced by Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary (Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Institutions) and Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, as the chief guest. The program will promote coordinated efforts among Departments to address the challenges of stray animal populations and ensure humane management practices.
Speakers representing reputed animal welfare organizations, including Blue Cross of India, Mission Rabies, World Veterinary Services, and the Animal Welfare Board of India, will dwell upon various topics related to stray animal control and the regulations therein. These sessions will provide insights into effective sterilization and welfare strategies to improve animal health and community safety.
The event will be conducted in hybrid mode, enabling participation from all districts and key blocks of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, including Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat, Hut Bay, Nicobar, Kamorta, and Campbell Bay. This outreach ensures that stakeholders across the Union Territory are engaged in developing comprehensive solutions for stray animal management.
Stakeholders, local self-Government representatives, and concerned officials from various Departments are expected to attend the workshop, contributing to the PAWS initiative’s goal of promoting humane and effective stray animal population management. The AH&VS Department’s efforts reflect the Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s commitment to advancing animal welfare and supporting sustainable community development through collaborative initiatives.
