A&N Administration Appeals Islanders for Judicious Use of Potable Water Considering Shortfall in Rainfall

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 6: The Administration is currently monitoring a significant shortfall in rainfall during the ongoing North East Monsoon. This deficiency has negatively impacted reservoir levels, groundwater recharge, and various surface water sources. In light of these conditions, concerns have arisen regarding the availability of drinking water in the coming months.

The Administration seeks the cooperation of all citizens, institutions, and commercial establishments in conserving available water resources. Potable water is requested to be used primarily for essential purposes such as drinking, cooking, and basic hygiene.

The public have been requested to avoid non-essential usage, including washing of vehicles, excessive watering of gardens, and similar activities, as such measures will help conserve water for common community needs.

Citizens and establishments have also been requested to ensure timely maintenance of internal water infrastructure. Prompt repair of leaking taps, pipelines, and fittings would significantly reduce avoidable wastage and support conservation efforts.

Construction agencies have been requested to make alternate arrangements for their water requirements and to refrain from using the piped drinking water supply for construction activities, so that domestic needs remain adequately met.

The Administration continues to closely monitor the situation to ensure fair and equitable distribution of water. Public participation and responsible usage are vital in addressing these challenges, and cooperation from all sections of society is earnestly requested to avoid water wastage.

Through responsible use and collective conservation efforts, we can mitigate the impact of the deficient monsoon. The public have been requested to cooperate fully, as they say, Together We Can!.
