A&N Islands Achieves Milestones by Creating Two Guinness World Records for Unfurling ‘The Largest National Flag Unfurled Underwater’ and ‘Tallest Human Stack Underwater’

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 3: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands created history by setting a new Guinness World Record on 2nd May 2026 for the largest National Flag unfurled underwater. The National Flag, measuring 60 × 40 metres, was unfurled at Radhanagar beach, Swaraj Dweep.

Further strengthening the spirit of excellence, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands today achieved another milestone, by creating a second Guinness World Record titled ‘Tallest Human Stack Underwater’ at the Lighthouse dive site, Swaraj Dweep. The height of ‘Tallest Human Stack Underwater’ was measured as 22.3 metres with 3 minutes duration.

Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency participated in the event at Swaraj Dweep with 14 scuba divers forming the ‘Tallest Human Stack Underwater’.

Upon completion of the event, a function held in the conference hall of the Dolphin Resort at Swaraj Dweep in the evening wherein Mr. Rishi Nath, Adjudicator from Guinness World Records, officially announced the creation of the new world record and presented the certificate to A&N Administration.

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor commended the divers, officials, and all stakeholders for their exceptional teamwork, dedication, and commitment in achieving the twin Guinness World Records (GWR) viz. ‘Largest National Flag Unfurled Underwater’ (60 m × 40 m; 2,400 sq.m.) and ‘Tallest Human Stack Underwater’ (22.3 metres height).

The twin GWR attempts were planned by the A&N Administration to spotlight the islands’ exceptional underwater wealth and to position A&N Islands as a premier international diving destination. The success in both the event has further reinforced the Islands’ reputation as a world-class destination for underwater exploration and diving.

Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, AVSM, NM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Shri H.S. Dhaliwal, IPS, along with senior officials from tourism department and other departments were also present on the occasion.

Personnel from the Tourism Department, the A&N Police, Forest Department, Indian Navy, and Indian Coast Guard, along with scuba divers from various Diving Centers across the Islands, contributed to the successful execution of the event.
