Andaman and Nicobar Command’s Coast Guard Component Averts Medical Emergency at Hut Bay

Hut Bay, July 23: Responding swiftly to a critical medical emergency, personnel of the Indian Coast Guard Station Hut Bay under operational Command of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) – saved the life of a passenger who collapsed at Hut Bay Jetty, Little Andaman, on 21 July 2025.

At around 1745 hrs, Deputy Commandant Bimal Kumar Mansingh of ICG Ship C-150, while on evening exercise, noticed a 41-year-old man lying unconscious with blood flowing out from his mouth. The man, accompanied by his old age mother, had just disembarked from MV Sentinel and suffered a seizure, resulting in a head injury and lacerated mouth.

The ICG team from ANC immediately responded and swiftly mobilised necessary resource from Coast Guard Station Hut Bay. The patient was stabilised on site, ensuring he remained responsive until medical support arrived.

Surg Lt Cdr Santhosh Kumar Thanugula, Station Medical Officer, administered first aid and, along with Deputy Commandant Mansingh, facilitated the patient’s safe transfer to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Hut Bay.

The swift and coordinated action by ANC’s Indian Coast Guard component drew wide appreciation from the local populace and once again reflected ANC’s enduring commitment to public safety and humanitarian assistance in the far-flung island territories.
