
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 18: Andaman Law College observed World Suicide Prevention Day-2025 today on the theme ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’. The National Mental Health Programme of State (ANI) in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services conducted the event. The speakers underlined that the suicide prevention is not just about saving lives, it is all about restoring hope and building resilience to bring a change the way society perceives mental health struggles.
Ms. Shyamli Singh, Clinical Psychologist, Tele-MANAS Cell, NTMPH, in her address discussed the changing narrative on suicide and created awareness on its causes, early warning signs, and preventive measures.
Dr. Sumitra Mondal, Counsellor Tele-MANAS, NTMPH, emphasised the role of Tele-MANAS and conducted a practical demonstration with the help of a student on how to call the toll-free number 14416 to seek help. Ms. Geeta, Counsellor, Tele-MANAS, administered pledge to all participants to spread awareness on suicide prevention.
Earlier, Prof. Dr. P. V. N. Sarma, Principal, welcomed the gathering. The programme which was attended by 100 students of Andaman Law College concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Rajiv Mondal, Director of Physical Education.
