Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 3: Andaman & Nicobar Police has earned national-level recognition for its outstanding performance across all parameters assessed under the State/UTs Performance Matrix for the period from 1st January to 20th August 2026, as reviewed during the 52nd PRAGATI Review Meeting chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
The Cybercrime Performance Matrix assesses the performance of States and Union Territories across key areas, including cybercrime prevention and response, investigation, victim assistance, inter-agency coordination, and capacity building.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands recorded excellent performance across all the parameters assessed, reflecting the consistent and focused efforts of Andaman & Nicobar Police towards strengthening the cybercrime response system in the Islands. The assessment covered important initiatives such as the State Cybercrime Coordination Centre (S4C), e-Zero FIR, Grievance Redressal Module (GRM), Money Restoration Module (MRM), Sahyog and Samanvay platforms, cybercrime hotspot action, CyTrain and IEC activities.
As part of these efforts, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Cybercrime Coordination Centre (ANI4C) has been established and operationalised, while the e-Zero FIR mechanism has also been successfully implemented in the Union Territory. To strengthen the response to cyber financial fraud, A&N Police has adopted a more victim-centric approach to case registration. The threshold for FIR registration in cyber financial fraud cases has been reduced from ₹1 lakh to ₹50,000/-, enabling FIRs to be registered for cyber financial losses of ₹50,000/- and above. This will help more victims receive timely legal and investigative assistance. These measures have strengthened the ability of A&N Police to respond promptly to cybercrime complaints and improve coordination with concerned agencies.
A&N Police has strengthened its technical and forensic capabilities with the establishment of a dedicated Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI). The facility provides practical training to new recruits and serving police personnel in digital forensics and the scientific handling of electronic evidence. Equipped with modern forensic tools, the laboratory will enhance the technical skills of investigators in the collection, preservation, examination and analysis of digital evidence, thereby contributing to more effective and professional investigation of cybercrime cases.
In the area of cyber financial fraud, timely intervention and coordinated efforts of A&N Police resulted in the recovery/restoration of ₹1,72,51,012/- to victims during the period. This reflects the emphasis being placed on prompt response, victim assistance and protection of citizens from financial losses arising from cyber fraud.
The recognition received by Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the national-level PRAGATI assessment is a matter of pride for the Islands and reflects the collective efforts and commitment of A&N Police personnel towards technology-driven policing, effective cybercrime investigation and response, capacity building and enhanced citizen safety.
The achievement also underlines the importance of public awareness and timely reporting in combating cybercrime.
