Sri Vijaya Puram, July 20: The Andaman & Nicobar Police today inaugurated the first-ever 21-Day Intensive Training Programme on Marine Policing for 46 Home Guard Volunteers of Andaman and Nicobar Police at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI), Sri Vijaya Puram. The programme was inaugurated by Shri Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (PMF), in the presence of Smti. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (PMF), Shri Uma Shankar, DANIPS, Principal, NSCBPTI, and other senior officers.
The training programme, being conducted from 20th July to 9th August 2026, has been jointly organized by the Police Marine Force and NSCBPTI. Based on the training framework prescribed by the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) in consultation with the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP), Okha, the programme has been launched in furtherance of the decisions of the DGsP/IGsP Conference–2025 chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to strengthen coastal policing and maritime security. The volunteers will undergo classroom instruction, practical training, field exercises, and assessments, including coordinated training with the Indian Coast Guard.
Addressing the participants, Shri Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, DIGP(PMF) emphasized the strategic importance of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and highlighted the vital role of a well-trained Home Guard Volunteers force in strengthening coastal surveillance, preventing illegal activities, and responding effectively to maritime emergencies and disasters. He urged the trainees to complete the course with discipline, dedication, and professionalism.
Speaking on the occasion, Smti. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, SP(PMF) described the programme as a significant step towards developing a skilled Home Guard Volunteer force capable of supporting Police Marine Force operations, including vessel operations, coastal surveillance, search and rescue, disaster response, and maintenance of marine assets.
