ANIIMS Commemorates World Breastfeeding Week

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 9: The Department of Pediatrics, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), commemorated World Breastfeeding Week (1–7 August 2026) with a series of awareness and capacity-building activities under the global theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.”

The week-long observance aimed to promote optimal infant and young child feeding practices and reinforce the importance of breastfeeding as a cornerstone of child survival, nutrition, and development.

As part of the celebrations, multiple activities were conducted to reach healthcare providers as well as the general public. Students presented an engaging skit highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding and addressing common myths and misconceptions.

Training sessions were also organized for healthcare workers, focusing on early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding practices, and effective management of common breastfeeding challenges. In addition, awareness sessions were conducted for postnatal mothers, mothers admitted in the children’s ward, and the general public to provide practical guidance and support for successful breastfeeding.
