Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 14: Shri. Anil Kumar Tiwari, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, A & N Islands, met the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A & N Islands and Vice Chairman Island Development Agency Admiral D.K.Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) at Raj Niwas today at 10:15 am and discussed some important issues pertaining to the Island population. The most important issue discussed was regarding the irritant power cuts causing unbearable inconvenience to the people of the Islands, particularly the citizens of Municipal Council and South Andaman area. Shri. Tiwari informed LG that due to power cuts amounting to about 10 – 12 hours a day people are highly aggrieved and are suffering. The Hon’ble LG gave a patient hearing and assured of an early solution to address the power cut problem. He informed Shri. Tiwari that an emergency order for a 10 MW diesel Generator set is being placed and is likely to be supplied and installed very soon.
The State President also highlighted the matter regarding the damaged Chatham Bridge, which has been the life line for thousands of people living in Bambooflat, Wimberlygunj other areas of South Andaman. Due to the damage of the Chatham Bridge aged people, ailing patients, Women and School Children are forced to walk long distance to catch a bus or other vehicle, from Chatham Jetty. Tiwari humbly requested the Lt. Governor to expedite the repair / reconstruction of the Chatham Bridge without any further delay.
The Hon’ble Lt. Governor assured the BJP President that the administration is exploring appropriate ways to find an early solution and to mitigate the problems being faced by the people residing in South Andaman area.
