
Wimberlygunj, Oct. 14: The Andaman and Nicobar State Legal Services Authority (ANSLSA) organized a Legal Awareness Programme on ‘POCSO, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and Mental Health’ today at Government Senior Secondary School, Wimberlygunj.
Before commencement of programme, His Lordship Hon’ble Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya, Judge, High Court at Calcutta, Zonal Judge for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Hon’ble Executive Chairman, ANSLSA planted a sapling within the premises of the School to create awareness on preservation of nature.
The programme was graced by the Hon’ble Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya, Judge, High Court at Calcutta, Zonal Judge for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Hon’ble Executive Chairman, ANSLSA. His Lordship shared his valuable views on the importance of safeguarding the rights of children and promoting mental well-being among the youth.
Shri Rashid Alam, Registrar, Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court at Port Blair and Member Secretary, ANSLSA, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the day’s proceedings. The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp.
During the awareness sessions, Ms. Tasneem, Learned Special Public Prosecutor (POCSO), District Court, Port Blair, elaborated on the key provisions and significance of the POCSO Act, emphasizing the need for vigilance and prompt reporting of offences against children. Mr. Deep Chaim Kabir, Learned Senior Advocate, High Court at Calcutta, shed light on the “Prohibition of Child Marriage Act” highlighting the legal and social consequences of child marriages. Dr. Kushal Baidya, Assistant Professor (Psychiatry), ANIIMS, provided valuable insights on “mental health” explaining practical ways to cope with stress and maintain emotional balance.
The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 200 students and teachers, who actively engaged in discussions and interacted with the speakers.
During the interaction, certain questions and doubts raised by the students, were answered by the His Lordship and other resource persons instantly. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Rashid Alam, Member Secretary, ANSLSA, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, and participants for their valuable contributions.
