Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 13: The Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), under the dynamic leadership of its President Shri Rangalal Halder and Chairman Campaign Committee Shri. G Bhasker, organised a protest against the BJP-led Central Government for introducing the New Labour Code, which weakens the labour rights across the nation.
The protest was organised in support of INTUC and the Forest Labour Union on 12th February, 2026, in front of Chatham Saw Mill, South Andaman. The programme witnessed active participation from workers, union members, and Congress leaders who strongly voiced their opposition to the anti-labour policies of the Central Government.
Addressing the gathering, several speakers highlighted the growing dissatisfaction among workers regarding the New Labour Code. They expressed serious concerns that the new provisions dilute long-standing labour protections, weaken job security, restrict the right to strike, and favour corporate interests over the welfare of hardworking labourers. The speakers emphasised that the working class is facing increasing hardships due to these changes and called for the immediate withdrawal of the anti-worker provisions.
The protest was attended by Block Congress leaders, Mahila Congress President, City Congress President, representatives of INTUC, members of the Forest Labour Union, Fisherman Congress representatives, SVPMC Councillors, and senior party leaders and workers.
The ANTCC reiterated its firm commitment to stand with the labour community and continue its struggle to safeguard the rights and dignity of workers in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and across the country.
