Sri Vijaya Puram, July 29: The Department of Art & Culture, A&N Administration, successfully concluded the three-day Somnath Samvaad organized as part of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv 2026 from July 27 to 29. The programme brought together spirituality, culture, and youthful creativity in a vibrant confluence that left a lasting impression on all participants and attendees. Swami Shuddhananda ji of Chinmaya Mission delivered a profound discourse that beautifully wove together the threads of India’s ancient spiritual heritage with the values of modern community service. Addressing a gathering of college students, Swamiji explained the enduring significance of the Somnath Jyotirling, portraying it as a timeless symbol of resilience and spiritual continuity that continues to inspire generations. On the occasion, Ms. Priyanka Kumari, Director (Art & Culture) emphasized that the Somnath Jyotirling is not merely a monument but a living emblem of resilience and spiritual composition, serving as a source of inspiration for millions across the world. Earlier, the Assistant Director (Art & Culture) welcomed the gathering.
As part of the Somnath Samvaad, a series of inter-collegiate competitions were organized under five categories on the central theme of “Somnath.” Students from various colleges of the Islands participated with great enthusiasm, showcasing their talent and creativity. In the Painting Competition, Shri Suvam Halder of JNRM secured the First Position, while Ms. Tanisha Mistry of DIET and Ms. S Jeevetha of ANCOL won the Second and Third positions respectively. In the Elocution Competition, Ms. Santoshi Kumari of TGCE won the First Position, Ms. R Rajashri of JNRM secured the Second, and Ms. Anisha Begum of TGCE won the Third. The Rangoli Competition saw spirited team participation, with TGCE bagging the First Position, DBRAIT securing the Second, and ANCOL winning the Third. In the Traditional Song/Bhajan Competition, TGCE once again emerged victorious, while ANCOL and DIET secured the Second and Third positions respectively. The final competition of the event, the Traditional Dance Competition, witnessed energetic performances, with JNRM winning the First Position, TGCE securing the Second, and DBRAIT taking the Third.
The Somnath Samvaad programme was marked by a unique confluence of spirituality, culture, and community engagement. The discourses, competitions, and collective participation reaffirmed the enduring relevance of Somnath as a beacon of resilience and spiritual pride. The event concluded on a resounding note, leaving behind a message of unity, inspiration, and cultural continuity for the youth and the community at large.
