Event Aims to Encourage Beach Sports and Promote Drug-Free Society
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 19: Beach Games–2025 for Open Men and Women being organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, A&N Administration got underway today at the sprawling Corbyn’s Cove Beach today. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS as the chief guest inaugurated the event in the presence of the Senior Officers of the Administration and a large gathering of general public and visitors at the picturesque Beach arena. The main objective of the event is to encourage beach sports and promote the message of a drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The event also aimed to ensure mass participation of youth and promote excellence in sports.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Chief Secretary congratulated the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, for the conduct of the event by involving youth. He further encouraged the youth for their maximum participation in different sports disciplines planned by the Sports Department.
Soon after the inauguration, Mallkhamb event was organised during which the participants showed their skills. Mallakhamb performed on a vertical wooden pole, by the participants executed acrobatic, yogic, and wrestling-style poses, combining strength, balance, and flexibility much to the delight of the audience at the beach. This was followed by the performance of Pencak Silat, Martial Art. A friendly Volleyball match was also played between the Administration and Police Department. Beach kabbadi event also attracted huge crowd at the venue. The Director (Education), Shri Vikram Singh gave away the prizes to the winners of the Pencak Silat competition.
The Beach Games–2025 for Open Men and Women which started today will continue till 21.12.2025 with Sports disciplines viz. Volleyball, Kabaddi, Tug of War, 50m Sprint, 100m Sprint, Football (7 a side), Beach Sepak Takraw, Beach Mallakhamb and Pencak Silat.
