Bid to Promote Better Work-Life Balance, Secy. Transport Inaugurates Crèche–cum-Feeding Room in Directorate of Transport

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 12: To promote better work-life balance and attendance of employees especially working parents, by providing a safe and convenient space for their young children during work hours has always been a challenge for Government organizations. In this direction, a Crèche–cum-Feeding Room has been established in the Directorate of Transport building with an objective to provide conducive environment especially for the working female employees.

The newly created Crèche–cum-Feeding Room in the Directorate of Transport, Sri Vijaya Puram was inaugurated by Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Secretary, Transport today in the presence of Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Director (Transport) in a simple function which was attended by a large number of employees.

After inaugurating the Crèche–cum-Feeding Room, Secretary (Transport) expressed her happiness on the important initiative taken by the Transport Department towards the welfare of employees. She termed the step as a revolutionary one even though the beginning was a humble one and hoped that more and more employees will benefit from the initiative. This shows the commitment of the Department towards the welfare of the employees especially female employees and emphasized that such initiative will not only increase the productivity of employees but also contribute in strengthening their families. She further stated that in earlier days, even basic facilities were not present when the female employees were lesser in number. With the evolution of society, female employees have started taking the dual responsibilities of house & work and started participating in economic activities. She stressed that organizations should promote such initiatives and today’s action was a small step in this direction.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director (Transport) thanked the Secretary (Transport) for her continuous guidance and support. He highlighted the importance of establishing such facilities, noting that women employees often balance professional duties alongside family responsibilities, He further added that along with creche facilities, basic amenities such as safe drinking water and clean toilets are being ensured so that employees do not face any inconvenience.

Earlier Deputy Director (Transport) welcomed the chief guest other dignitaries and all present on the occasion. The program concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Assistant Director Transport. The event is expected to mark as a significant milestone in the Department’s efforts towards employee welfare and gender friendly workplace reforms.
