Bid to Simplify Public Service and Reduce Procedural Delays

A&N Administration Permits Self-Attested Test Reports/ Self-Certification for Low-Risk Electricity Consumers

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 3: The Electricity Department, A&N Administration has informed the general public that as a major citizen-centric initiative aimed at simplifying public services and reducing procedural delays, the A&N Administration has introduced a significant reform in the process of obtaining electricity connections for low-risk consumers.

Pursuant to the Central Electricity Authority (Measures relating to Safety and Electric Supply) Regulations, 2023 and based on the recommendations of the Central Electricity Authority and with the approval of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor (Administrator), A&N Islands, the Administration has permitted a deviation under Regulation 33 by permitting self-attested test reports/self-certification in place of the mandatory certified test reports for low-risk electricity consumers with connected load up to 20 kW. The notification has been published in the Extraordinary Gazette of the A&N Administration.

The initiative is expected to substantially reduce procedural delays, simplify documentation requirements and facilitate faster release of electricity connections to eligible domestic, commercial and other low-risk consumers. By minimizing compliance burden while maintaining safety standards prescribed by the Central Electricity Authority, the Administration has taken another progressive step towards improving public service delivery.

This reform will particularly benefit households, small commercial establishments, offices and other low-risk electricity consumers by making the connection process more efficient while continuing to uphold all applicable electrical safety standards prescribed by the Central Electricity Authority. This progressive measure is another milestone in the Administration’s ongoing efforts to improve governance through policy reforms, enhance public service delivery and create a more business-friendly environment across the Islands.

The A&N Administration remains committed to providing faster, transparent and hassle-free public services while ensuring the highest standards of electrical safety. This initiative reflects our continued efforts towards citizen-friendly governance and ease of doing business in the Islands.
