Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 24: Under the framework of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), a two-day Food Mela was successfully organized on 21st and 22nd February at the scenic Wandoor Beach by the CD Block Ferrargunj.
The Food Mela was organized with the objective of promoting rural entrepreneurship, enhancing livelihood opportunities for Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and providing a public platform for showcasing locally prepared food products developed under DAY-NRLM. The initiative also aimed at strengthening market linkage and increasing income generation for women SHG members.
The event was graced by Smti. Padmawati, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti Ferrargunj; Shri Aadhir Das, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wandoor; Shri Bharat Sharma, Samiti Member, Wandoor Gram Panchayat; Smti. Kavita, Samiti Member, Humfrygunj and Smti. Lalita Tigga, BDO Ferrargunj. The guests interacted with SHG members, visited the stalls, and appreciated the efforts of women entrepreneurs for their active participation and quality presentation.
A total of 17 Self-Help Groups from Wandoor, Chouldari, Humfrygunj and Guptapara under DAY-NRLM participated in the Food Mela by setting up food stalls offering a wide range of traditional, local, and popular food items. The stalls reflected the culinary skills, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of SHG members and received an encouraging response from visitors, tourists, and local residents.
To further enrich the event, cultural programmes were organized on both days, featuring performances by local artists and community members. These programmes created a vibrant and festive atmosphere and highlighted the cultural diversity and heritage of the region, drawing significant footfall to the mela.
Overall, the Food Mela served as a meaningful platform for SHGs to gain exposure, confidence, and economic benefits, aligning with the broader vision of DAY-NRLM to ensure sustainable livelihoods and inclusive rural development.
